A press note issued by the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India on Friday afternoon said, “We have seen reports of obstructions at various entry-exit points at the India-Nepal border. The reported obstructions are due to unrest, protests and demonstrations on the Nepalese side, by sections of their population.”
The note further says that it had already informed through a press statement on 21 September that the Indian freight forwarders and transporters had complained about the difficulties in ferrying goods into Nepal due to the security concerns posed by the ongoing unrest in the districts bordering with India.
The first official response to come from the Indian side amid speculations in Nepal if India has imposed blockade at the entry points reiterates the southern neighbor’s previous comment that the issues facing Nepal are political in nature. It says, “Nepalese leadership needs to address the causes underlying the present state of confrontation credibly and effectively. Issues of differences should be resolved and institutionalized with broad-based ownership and acceptance.”
