Two seventeen-year-old sisters, who fled Delhi on December 30 to escape their abusive stepfather, were discovered at Dadar on Friday and reunited with their family. A police official said, “The girls got off at Dadar station and seemed lost. A police constable noticed them and tried talking to them, but the teenagers wouldn’t give any details. The constable then called the Women Safety Brigade. They took the girls to the Matunga Police Station.” The girls were questioned about why they had come to Mumbai. The girls allegedly said they were looking for work. “We searched their bags and found a SIM card, which had the number of a distant relative,” the official continued. “We called him and he said that he was unaware of anyone in his family visiting Mumbai. After a few hours, he gave us the number of the girls’ uncle. We then got in touch with their mother, who immediately came to Mumbai with her son and father-in-law,” the official added. The police got the real picture only after the family had given their statements. “The girls finally admitted that their stepfather would often drink and get abusive. One day, they got into a fight with him and left home to live independently. They said they had come to Mumbai because they were attracted by the glamorous Mumbai lifestyle they had seen in movies,” the official said. Balasaheb Kakad, Senior Inspector of Matunga Police Station, confirmed the incident and lauded the Women Safety Brigade. - See more at: http://www.tajavdo.com/videos/matunga-cops-trace-teens-who-fled-delhi-to-escape-abusive-stepfather/#sthash.XmCtU112.dpuf
