Just fourteen days after the promulgation of the new constitution, the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday ordered the Ministry for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to prepare bills on constitutional amendments.
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala expressed his commitment in the meeting to amend the constitution on delineation of electoral constituencies based on population and guaranteeing proportional and inclusive representation, among others. Following a cabinet decision, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala in his address to parliament stated that the amendment process has begun.
The prime minister informed that the issues highlighted during the agitation of indigenous communities, Janajati, Tharu, Madhesi, Muslims and Dalits would be addressed through amendments. The cabinet meeting also decided that the PM Sushil Koirala will request the President to begin the process of electing new PM based on consensus as per Article 298 of the constitution.
